Here are some traditional events and customs you can enjoy in Japan in August:

🏮 お盆ぼん（Obon）

Dates: August 13–16 (varies slightly by region)
Obon is a Buddhist event to honor the spirits of ancestors. Many people return to their hometowns to visit family graves and join in local Bon Odori (Bon dancing) festivals. Streets and temples may be lit up with lanterns.

お盆ぼんは、祖先そせんの霊れいを供養くようする仏教ぶっきょうの行事ぎょうじです。
多おおくの人ひとが故郷こきょうに帰かえり、家族かぞくのお墓参はかまいりや盆踊ぼんおどりに参加さんかします。
町まちや寺てらでは、提灯ちょうちんのあかりがともされます。

🎆 花火大会はなびたいかい（Fireworks Festivals）

All throughout August, large fireworks displays are held across Japan. People wear yukata (summer kimono) and enjoy street food at these festive summer events.

8月には、全国各地ぜんこくかくちで花火大会はなびたいかいが開ひらかれます。
人々ひとびとは浴衣ゆかたを着きて、夜空よぞらに広がる美うつくしい花火はなびを楽たのしみます。
屋台やたいの食たべ物ものも人気にんきです。

🎐 夏祭りなつまつり（Summer Festivals）

Shrines and towns host local festivals with food stalls, games, dancing, and music. Some famous ones include the Awa Odori in Tokushima and Nebuta Matsuri in Aomori (though these may be held earlier in the month).

神社じんじゃや町まちでは、夏祭りなつまつりが開かれます。
屋台やたい、金魚きんぎょすくい、太鼓たいこや踊おどりなど、にぎやかな雰囲気ふんいきが魅力みりょくです。
徳島とくしまの阿波踊りあわおどりや、青森あおもりのねぶた祭まつりなどが有名ゆうめいです。

🍧 夏の風物詩なつのふうぶつし（Summer Delights）

August is hot and humid, so people enjoy shaved ice (かき氷), cold noodles, and cool drinks. Traditional wind chimes (風鈴) and bamboo screens are also popular to help feel cooler.

8月はとても暑あつくて湿度しつどが高たかいため、
