節分せつぶん

Date: February 3

節分せつぶんは、冬ふゆが終おわり、春はるが始はじまる前まえの日ひです。
「鬼おには外そと、福ふくは内うち！」と言いいながら豆まめをまき、悪わるいものを追おい払はらいます。

Setsubun is the day before spring begins. People scatter roasted soybeans while shouting “Oni wa soto! Fuku wa uchi!” to drive away bad luck and welcome good fortune.

【My Story】
我わが家やでは節分せつぶんの豆まめまきがおわったあと、家いえの中なかでお菓子かしをまきます。チョコレートやビスケット、キャンディなどです。子こどもは豆まめまきよりもお菓子かしまきを楽たのしみにしているようです。

At our house, after we finish the bean-throwing for Setsubun, we scatter sweets inside the house—things like chocolates, biscuits, and candy. It seems the children look forward to the “sweet-scattering” more than the bean-throwing!

バレンタインデー

Date: February 14

日本にほんのバレンタインデーは、女性じょせいから男性だんせいへチョコレートを贈おくるのが一般的いっぱんてきですが、最近さいきんでは、友達ともだちにあげる「友ともチョコ」や自分用じぶんように買かう「自分じぶんチョコ」という文化ぶんかがあります。自分じぶんチョコには、いつも頑張がんばっている自分じぶんへのご褒美ほうびとして、普段ふだん食たべないような高価こうかなチョコレートを買かったりします。

While it is traditional in Japan for women to give chocolates to men, recently there is a culture of “Tomo-choco” (chocolates for friends) and “Jibun-choco” (chocolates for oneself). For “Jibun-choco,” people often buy expensive chocolates that they don’t usually eat as a special reward for their hard work.

【My Story】
去年きょねんはポケモンのモンスターボールのチョコとポケモンのチョコを作つくりました。モンスターボールをかじると、ポケモンが出ててきます。

Last year, I made Pokemon “Poke Ball” chocolates and Pokemon-shaped chocolates. When you bite into the Poke Ball, a tiny Pokemon appears from inside!

【My Story】
