Are You Using 〜ています for Your Daily Habits?

NATURAL JAPANESE NOTES | GRAMMAR

Are You Using 〜ています
for Your Daily Habits?

You probably know that 〜ています can describe something happening right now.

But did you know it can also describe regular or repeated activities?

You can use 〜ています for things you do regularly, even when you’re not doing them right now.

Everyday Examples

I go running every morning.

I drink wine every night.

I study Japanese every week.

💡 Natural Japanese Tip

Try using 〜ています with words that express repetition:

毎朝まいあさ — every morning 毎晩まいばん — every night 毎週まいしゅう — every week いつも — always / usually

In English, we usually use the simple present tense for habits. But Japanese can use 〜ています!

These time expressions make the habitual meaning clearer, although they are not always necessary.
